How Long Does It Take to Decontaminate a Meth Property?

This is a common question and a fair one too. Many owners are worried about decontaminating a home in time to sell. The good news AEI Decon can often complete this process in two to three weeks, which is significantly faster than trying to approach the problem alone.

State Regulations

According to Utah state regulations, no one may enter a meth contaminated property. The only exceptions are the owner of record, (not including the owner’s family) and the Certified Decontamination Specialist’s team.

As we stated, it generally takes two to three weeks to complete the entire meth decontamination process.  This time frame includes compiling and submitting a work plan to the Health Department, disposing of all porous debris, decontaminating the property, post-testing, and clearing the property with the health department.

Each step is vital to the decontamination process.

Compiling the work plan and obtaining approval from the local health department can take two to three business days.  Disposing of the porous materials and debris usually takes one to two business days depending on the amount.  Decontaminating the property interior can take three to five days depending on the levels of methamphetamine found prior to decontamination. Post testing the property only takes a few hours but the analytical laboratory requires five business days to process the results. This part of the process can be sped up by requesting a shorter processing time from the laboratory. However, this doubles the cost of the post-testing.

Once we have acceptable results the final work plan is compiled and a day and time is scheduled with the health department for clearance.
